Jodrell Bank Observatory awarded UNESCO World Heritage Status

Goostrey Parish Council sends their warmest congratulations to the Jodrell Bank Observatory for achieving the award of UNESCO World Heritage Status.   The Lovell Telescope and the control building as well as the SKA global HQ are all in Goostrey Parish and we are very proud to have such a prestigious site so close to our village.    The observatory will now be inscribed on the World Heritage List, in recognition of its internationally significant heritage, science and cultural impact.  This is incredible news not just for Jodrell Bank, but also for the region, and the UK as a whole.  The coveted award marks the culmination of a long journey that began nearly 10 years ago and which has been led tirelessly by Professors Teresa Anderson and Tim O’Brien.

Jodrell Bank will join a prestigious group of sites across the globe that have been recognised by UNESCO’s international community as sites of Outstanding Universal Value.   Further news can be found on social media @JodrellBank with the hashtag #JodrellBankWorldHeritage and  on the Jodrell Bank website: www.jodrellbank.net
