Saturday 27 June 2020 will be Goostrey Rose Day. For the first time since WW2, the traditional event has been cancelled but there will still be celebrations in our village.
The committee has adopted the tagline RoseDay@Home. We’re encouraging residents to hang bunting as usual but also to make a banner. Residents of New Platt Lane are already organising tea in their gardens. And Dane Sound Community Radio will broadcast a special programme via the internet between 1 and 4pm. The Rose Queen for 2020, Cate Clayton, will be helping with the distribution of cakes made by the team who usually organise Rose Day teas to isolated local residents.
Please enter for the competitions – bunting and banners in your garden, an arrangement of cottage garden flowers (contact Kate Hext on katehext@talktalk.net or phone 07818425839), a pin cushion or a lego robot. In addition Goostrey Parish Archive group have created a family walking treasure hunt between The Red Lion and The Trading Post. There are 20 questions plus interesting facts about our village. Entry forms are available between 18 and 28 June from Goostrey News or by emailing s.smallwood@btinternet.com. I’ve attached a poster to this email.

Also, as the special Dane Sound radio programme starts at 1pm, this year’s Rosebud Queen, Rose Worsley, will follow a group of vintage tractors through the village. The ‘procession’ will start at Booth Bed Lane and go to the Red Lion. Rose will also place a bouquet of garden flowers (in keeping with the RD@Home theme) on the war memorial at the church.
